Brasserie Gerard

with one comment

We went for a late lunch at brasserie Gerard in Manchester city centre opposite the city hall. As it was past 3 the place was pretty quiet and there was only one other table that had any diners. Despite this the atmosphere was still okay with a selection of French music filling which was pleasant and did not offend.

I ordered a coke then a rare steak baguette. Amy had an appletiser and a brie and mushroom baguette. Both came with nicely cooked French fries and a salad. Just what we wanted after a trip to the gym.

My steak was a little cold by the time I got to the second half but that was more due to the speed at which I eat than a poorly cooked piece of beef. Maybe next time I’ll have it medium.

Service was fine, the emptiness of the place meant it was obvious when our waitress came to check on us and it was slightly absurd that she would go and fiddle with a till behind our table rather than just go back to the bar.

Generally a good lunch. I’ll go there again. The steak baguette is much better than cafe rouge.

Lunch for 2 was £25 with a tip.

Edit: 12th August

It’s a shame that this place appears to have closed down. Looking through the windows the plants are drooping with lack of water while the light on the Stella tap has been left on. I will have to find somewhere else to eat steak baguettes.

The wordpress app can be easily downloaded from the apple store and allows you to add blog posts easily from your iPhone. I’m not sure exactly how long it takes to download as I clicked start then made a tiramisu so it was installed when I next looked at my phone. A good feature is that it takes advantage of the spelling correction in the iOS (or whatever the iPhone OS is called) so you can blog quite quickly with only minimal errors.
